If you want to decrease your risk of
developing disease and live a healthy life, it is vitally important to achieve
and maintain a healthy body composition of lean body mass vs. body fat.
How do you do this? Well, it comes down to simple math. When we consume
more calories than we use up in a day, we store the extra calories as fat.
The more we store, the higher the percentage of body fat we accumulate, and the
higher the numbers climb on the scale!
If you are over or underweight, in
order to bring your weight to a healthy level, you must adjust your caloric
intake to either lose or gain weight. In addition, you should increase your
activity level through exercise to burn excess stored calories, and while doing
so, receive the benefit of maintaining healthy muscles, joints, bones and
tissues.
Once you achieve your ideal weight,
you must consume (eat) just enough calories that your body needs
to spend in a day. How do you know what just enough is? You
can estimate this by measuring your lean body mass. Measuring your lean
body mass is provided FREE when you sign up for either an exercise membership or
weight management program. You can also estimate your daily caloric
requirements by calculating your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).
You can determine if your current
body weight for your height is healthy by using a standard measurement system
called a "Body Mass Index". However, the better measure of your
health status is by having your
Body Composition Analyzed. This measure will give you a more accurate
measure because it breaks down your weight into its components.
